Planning - Procedure

Welcome to Entebbe Uganda – the adventure begins!

Day 1: After your relaxed scheduled flight, you land in Entebbe in the evening. As soon as you have left the plane, you will be met directly in the terminal by one of our employees. No stress with entry formalities or customs – we’ll take care of it!

The English-speaking guide is already waiting for us in the arrivals hall. A short transfer (approx. 15 minutes) takes you to the charming “The Boma” guesthouse (3*- 4* no meals!), where you can relax from the journey in a cozy atmosphere. Your big safari adventure starts tomorrow!

Day 2 – On the trail of the shoebill & drive to Kibale National Park

Rise and shine – today it’s off to the shores of Lake Victoria! A one-hour boat trip takes you to the mysterious Mabamba papyrus swamp, a paradise for bird lovers. There you will change into small canoes (max. 2 photographers per canoe) and glide through the narrow waterways with an experienced birdwatcher. With a bit of luck, you might spot the rare shoebill, one of the most fascinating birds in Africa! But herons, kingfishers and many other water birds can also be observed perfectly here. Your varied drive (approx. 5 hours) to western Uganda starts around midday. The route takes you along the northern Rwenzori foothills – past the picturesque Ndali Kasenda crater fields with idyllic crater lakes, lush tea plantations and dense rainforest. Destination: Kibale National Park, the primate stronghold of Africa! Over 1,500 chimpanzees live here, two families of which are habituated to humans. In the evening, you move into your cozy accommodation on the edge of the jungle – the Turaco Treetops Lodge, nestled in lush greenery. Listen to the sounds of the jungle and look forward to tomorrow’s adventure!

2 nights in the 3-Lodge (Standard Cottage, F/P/A)*.

Day 3 – Chimpanzee tracking & first safari in Queen Elizabeth National Park

A real highlight is on the program today: chimpanzee tracking! In the morning, you will head deep into the rainforest to get up close to our “closest relatives”. After a short briefing, you will join an experienced game ranger in small groups (6-8 people) and set off in search of one of the chimpanzee families. The monkeys are particularly active in the morning – they swing from branch to branch, screaming loudly, fighting over figs or dropping surprises from above (watch out for flying fruit and… other “leftovers”). If you’re lucky, you’ll catch the perfect moment: when the chimpanzees climb down from the trees, relax, cuddle or louse each other up – the best opportunity for spectacular photos!
Duration: approx. 3-5 hours | Difference in altitude: 200-300 m
After lunch or a picnic, continue south along the Central African Rift Valley and the legendary Mountains of the Moon to the vast savannahs of Queen Elizabeth National Park. This huge protected area (2,000 kmÇ) is home to almost 100 mammal species and over 600 bird species – including elephants, buffalo, hippos, crocodiles, lions and leopards. In the afternoon, you move into your beautifully situated lodge – the Twin Lakes Safari Lodge, with a view of the Central African Rift Valley and a refreshing pool. But there’s no time to rest – because your first exciting game drive starts straight afterwards!

On a lion hunt (with a camera, of course) You explore the open savannah, the territory of the Ugandan kobs – the lions’ favorite prey. But other antelope species, the rare giant forest hog and perhaps even a shy leopard could also run in front of your lens. The perfect way to get in the mood for your next safari days!

2 nights in the cottages of the 3+ Twin Lakes Safari Lodge (F/P/A)*.

Day 4 – Chimpanzee tracking 2.0.

Boat safari & game drive The day starts early – and spectacularly! You drive from the lodge to the ranger post at the impressive Kyambura Gorge, where the Kyambura River has dug deep into the Central African Rift Valley. Up to 100 meters deep and 300 meters wide, a tropical rainforest stretches out here, forming a fascinating contrast to the dry grass savannah. With an experienced ranger, you roam through the green gorge, a mysterious world that is home not only to chimpanzees, but also to leopards, hippos and various species of monkey. But be careful: the humid climate sometimes makes the paths slippery, so you have to be careful where you step! A chimpanzee sighting cannot be guaranteed, but the thrill of the search makes the hike all the more exciting.

Duration: approx. 3-5 hours | elevation gain: 200-300 m

In the afternoon: boat safari on the Kazinga Canal After a short breather, change your perspective: experience the wildlife up close on a boat trip along the Kazinga Canal! The waterway connects Lake Edward with Lake George and is a true paradise for wildlife. Crocodiles lurk in the thickets along the banks, hippos splash lazily in the water, buffalo and elephants come to drink, while majestic white-tailed eagles make their rounds. The perfect opportunity for spectacular animal sightings and unique photo opportunities!

And finally: Another game drive! Back on land, there is still some time for another game drive through the open savannahs. Perhaps a lion, a shy leopard or one of the many antelope species will show itself? The day ends with one last magical sunset over the African wilderness.

What an adventure!

Day 5 – In search of the legendary tree lions in the Ishasha sector.

Before sunrise, you set off on a game drive through the open savannah – just the right time to observe wild animals during their morning activities. With a bit of luck, you might spot lions hunting, elephants taking their first dip in the water or antelopes cautiously greeting the new day.

After this morning safari, we continue to the southern Ishasha sector (travel time approx. 2.5-3 hours), which is known for a very special natural phenomenon: tree lions! While most lions prefer to rest in the tall grass, the elegant cats of prey climb the branches of the fig trees here to escape the midday heat. A rare and spectacular spectacle that, with a bit of luck, you can witness live! After a relaxed picnic by the Ishasha River, accompanied by the grunting of hippos, the search continues: the southern fig trees are the best place to spot lions snoozing among the leaves. Elephants, topis and other savannah dwellers can also be observed here.

Overnight stay with wildlife views. In the evening, you will arrive at your beautifully situated Enjojo Lodge, nestled in nature and close to a waterhole. With a bit of luck, you might spot elephants drinking on the terrace during sundowners – the perfect end to an exciting day!

1 overnight stay in a 3* lodge (F/P/A) e.g. Enjojo Lodge:

Day 6 – On the tracks of the tree lions & drive into the Bwindi jungle

The day begins in the middle of the wilderness – and still in the dark. We set off early, as this is when we have the best chance of spotting one of the nocturnal hunters. Perhaps a hyena will scurry into its den on the way back, or a leopard will move silently through the tall grass. Then it’s off again in search of lions! The Ishasha sector is one of the few places in Africa where lions actually climb trees – an absolutely fascinating spectacle. Take your time to roam the vast landscape in your off-road vehicle and keep an eye out for these impressive cats of prey lolling in the branches of the fig trees. As there are only a few visitors here, you can often enjoy the animal encounters all to yourself – pure safari feeling! Help needed: Your guide has eagle eyes, but in this untouched nature, every pair of eyes counts – so join in the spotting and peer intently into the trees and bushes! After a hearty bush breakfast, it’s time to say goodbye to Queen Elizabeth National Park. But the next adventure is already waiting: you drive to the impenetrable mountain rainforests of Bwindi National Park – home to over half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas!

Your base for the next two nights is the cozy Ichumbi Gorilla Lodge, close to the Rushaga ranger post – perfectly located for your upcoming gorilla tracking!

2 nights in the 3* lodge (F/P/A)

Day 7 – Gorilla tracking: An unforgettable adventure!

Today is the big day! Early in the morning, you make your way to the ranger post in Bwindi National Park, where the adventure begins. After a detailed briefing, you will learn all about the rules of conduct when dealing with the gentle giants – because today you are heading into the middle of the dense, mystical mountain rainforest. Together with experienced rangers and local trackers, you will follow the tracks of the gorillas – cross-country over hill and dale, through moss-covered giant trees, dense ferns and winding liana trails. The trackers have been out since sunrise looking for the nests left by the gorillas the day before. From there, they continue to follow the fresh tracks – and as soon as they have tracked down a gorilla family, your guide gets the message: Now it’s getting exciting! Using secret “shortcuts”, you make your way through the impenetrable forest – your adrenaline is pumping and your heart is pounding. And then, suddenly: a rustling in the bushes, a deep growl – and there they are! The imposing mountain gorillas, with their leader, the mighty silverback, in the center. A magical moment that you will never forget. You have exactly one hour to observe the gorillas in their natural environment – to marvel at them playing, eating or dozing. It is a unique privilege to be so close to these fascinating animals. After this unique experience, you return to the lodge – with memories that will last forever.

Walking time: approx. 5-7 hours | difference in altitude: 800-900 m Gorilla tracking

Day 8 – Adventure in Lake Mburo National Park

Today, a breathtaking drive through the spectacular landscape of the southern Bwindi National Park awaits you. Around midday, you will reach the *Igongo Cultural Center*, where you can not only immerse yourself in the history of the *Ankole*, but also enjoy a sumptuous buffet – plantains included!

Then it’s on to one last safari highlight: Lake Mburo National Park with its hilly acacia landscape awaits you! You will spot the first zebras, impalas and impressive elands on the drive to the lodge
. Your accommodation? The fantastic *Mihingo Lodge*, which nestles harmoniously into the rocks. From up here, you have a fantastic view over an animal-rich valley – and of Lake Mburo, which shimmers golden in the evening light.

2x overnight stay in a 4* lodge (F/P/A)

z. e.g. [Mihingo Lodge](http://www.mihingolodge.com)

Day 9 – On foot among giraffes & last safari moments

Have you ever walked right through a herd of giraffes? Today you have the chance! Explore Lake Mburo National Park with a ranger on an exciting game walk – a unique experience where you can experience the morning activities of the animals up close
. Eye to eye with zebras, impalas and maybe even a shy leopard – the perfect opportunity for impressive photos!

After this intense nature experience, you will go on one last game drive before leaving the park. A relaxed stop at the equator with coffee and souvenir photos rounds off the safari adventure. Then it’s time to say goodbye: After around five
hours’ drive, you reach Entebbe, where a day room is available – ideal
for freshening up and relaxing before your international flight home.
